Macro Photography at Folly Beach, SC

The beach was a good place to practice macrophotography including small flowers, shells, grasses, and sand. I was using my Sony A6000 to practice with my new lens. Capturing small shells like these was incredibly difficult as the wind kept blowing the tiny sand gains around.

This was the first time using my new macro lens and I wanted to push the limits! You might be familiar with the work of Dr. Gary Greenburg whose images of sand are fantastic!

While these tiny shells are striking, you can clearly see the silica with no defined shape having been crushed by the waves making up the majority of the particles in the photograph. This shell may look big but would easily have fit on tip of my finger.

I discovered when taking macro photos- the f-stop (will explain later) is important because it determines how much of the photographs’ subject is in focus.
